Cities should require builders to design in safe biike parking in parking lots, multi unit homes and office buildings. Make it mandatory.

I travel to The Hague for work quite often and have been wowed by the enormous amount the city has invested in a huge underground bike storage facility at the central train station - we can only dream of this!

I'm just looking at this again because I'd like to buy a better bike, but don't have good storage where I live. Is the Gatineau storage locker a possibility for a back yard? Does anyone know? And how much would it cost? There are a lot of houses in centre town with out the luxury of a garage. Is it a pipe dream to hope for city-sponsored storage? It would save money on police chasing down stolen bikes.

Why don't you put in a request to your city councillor that we do a pilot project to turn one car parking spot into an on-street bike parking cage for 4-6 bikes (like the picture from London)? Get it done on your block! (I don't think the Gatineau storage locker is designed for single use, but I imagine someone handy could build you a bike cage.)

Thanks, Neil. Good idea. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Also, consider this a call for someone handy to build me a storage locker!!
